NYS Medicaid new Dentist Specialty codes

This blog post applies to NY providers (Dentists) thay currently have the specialty code “810” – parenteral conscious sedation.

What is changing?

  • Specialty code “810” is going to be removed
  • 4 new specialty codes are created to better capture the specialty of the dental provider and comply with NYSED regulations and align with adjudication and payment for anesthesia claims

The 4 new specialty codes are:

  • Specialty Code “122” – Dental Parenteral Conscious (Moderate) Sedation, 13 years of age and up
  • Specialty Code “123” – Dental Enteral Conscious (Moderate) Sedation, 13 years of age and up
  • Specialty Code “124” – Dental Parenteral Conscious (Moderate) Sedation, under 13 years of age
  • Specialty Code “125” – Dental Enteral Conscious (Moderate) Sedation, under 13 years of age

Newly enrolling dentists:

  • Please add any of the above specialty codes
  • The provider license needs to reflect the selected “specialty code” on NYS professional license.

Current dental providers with speciallty code “810”:

  • Need to update the enrollment file with the appropriate specialty code (s)
  • And provide requested documentation before DOS 5/1/26
  • If not done- any claim submitted with specialty code “810” will be denied
