MA medicaid weight loss drug coverage update

Please note that for any DOS on or after 7/3/26, MA Medicaid will no longer cover the following drugs for weight loss and obesity indication. The updated coverage will apply MA UHC Community Health Plan.


What is not changing?

The drugs are still covered for indications that are covered by CMS: type 2 diabetes, obstructive apnea and cardiovascular disease.


The following drugs are affected:

  • Contrave® (naltrexone/bupropion)
  • Didrex (benzphetamine)
  • Dietylpropion (diethylpropion extended release)
  • Lomaira®, Adipex-P® (phentermine capsule, tablet)
  • Mounjaro® (tirzepatide)
  • Ozempic® (semaglutide)
  • Phendimetrizine (phendimetrazine extended release)
  • Qsymia® (phentermine/topiramate)
  • Saxenda® (liraglutide)
  • Wegovy® (semaglutide)
  • Xenical® (orlistat) 
  • Zepbound® (tirzepatide)
