UHC commercial plans- new allergy testing policy-9/1/26

If you are an allergist that accepts UHC commercial plans in your office/facility? Then this blog post is for you!


What is new?

  • UHC will consider IgE in vitro allergy serum testing for any patient 20 years and older that have a Dx of moderate to severe asthma or symptoms of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.
  • UHC will consider upto 20 allergen specific antibodies IgE tests per year- any patient 20 years and older

What will not be considered for reimbursement?

  • ALCAT
  • bead-based epitope assays- in vitro allergy testing
  • basophil activation flow cytometry testing billed for allergy symptoms
  • IgE multiple screening non specific allergen testing
  • IgG, IgA, IgM and IgD in vitro testing with Dx of allergy symptoms

The new reimbursement policy will go into the effect for any DOS on 9/1/26 and thereafter except the following states: AR, CO, KY, NC, NE, OH and RI- for these states the effective date will be 10/1/26.
